Mavi Veloso is a Brazilian performer based in Amsterdam who works transdisciplinary integrating visual art dance, theater and music. Her work explores performativity, the relationship between performer and audience, trans feminism and decolonization.

As a transgender immigrant from South America to Europe, Mavi seeks to embody and appropriate the transformation process, psychological, social and physical, conflicts as well as fashion, queer, trans and drag queen elements to question gender technologies, notions of identity, sexuality, placement and displacement. Mavi has released songs with Tropical Twista Records and Anunak and her work has been presented in venues and festivals including the HKW in Berlin, the van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, Kunstenfestivaldesarts at Kanal Centre Pompidou Brussels, Les Urbaines in Lausanne and the 31st Biennial of São Paulo.

Mavi Studied dance, theatre, music through diverse formal and informal training processes. Graduated in Visual Arts at State University of Londrina, Paraná, Brazil (2006-2009). Continued studies in Performativity with COMO clube artist platform, São Paulo (2011​-2014). Did Post-master in Performance at A.PASS (Advanced Performance And Scenography Studies), Brussels, Belgium (2014​-2016). Master of Voice at Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2016-2018).

Among some recent works are: the films “Maravilhosa”, directed by Thiemi Higashi and “Pink color: Los estados unidos del fuego”, directed by Octavio Tavares and Francisca Oyaneder. The performance projects “PRIVATE ROOM”, projeto “Preta” and “Indumentaria Popular”. Participates in Free Home University radical and artistic pedagogy experiment, Lecce/Italy, and Queer City in São Paulo, both ArtsEverywhere / Musagetes programs, Canadian philanthropic arts organisation.

Currently developing the transdisciplinary project “#iwannamakerevolution”, an umbrella research that hosts creations such as the Quase Show (music show), MUDA/MUTE (performance), TravaLíngua (workshop), the solo Truque Trrrah (performance), the ensemble Trans Opera (music/performance), Biological Tranny (music show).
“#iwannamakerevolution” is about placement, displacement, mutant and in transit bodies. Started in post-master at A.PASS and currently inside Master of Voice at Sandberg Instituut. The project is also in residence in the platform ArtsEverywhere / Musagetes.
