Ode to Hrant Dink
This year it has been fifteen years since the Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink was murdered by a Turkish nationalist. Hrant Dink had great influence inside and outside Turkey and stood up for the marginalized groups. For years he had to endure threats from very nationalistic-minded Turks. Ultimately, this proved fatal to him. In early 2007, at the age of 52, Dink was gunned down in broad daylight outside his office by a teenager. During this program we honor the work and legacy of Dink’s oeuvre.
Writer Karin Karakaşlı knew Hrant Dink personally. She was one of the founders of the Turkish-Armenian newspaper Agos. She pays a special tribute to Dink.
Tayfun Balcik, who has been committed to the dialogue between Turks, Armenians and Kurds for many years, talks about how he is inspired by Dink’s oeuvre to this day.
