Reflecting Cities #2 Time is Illmatic (2014)

12 Jul 2017

On the road to the Read My World – Black USA Edition – Festival in October 2017, we are presenting a series of movies in the garden that show the contemporary Black Culture in American cities. Each movie will be introduced by a Dutch writer, selected by SLAA Amsterdam. The second movie in this series is ‘Time is Illmatic’ (2014) about Nas and his music. Author Murat Isik introduces the film.

Time Is Illmatic is a feature length documentary film that delves deep into the making of Nas’ 1994 debut album, Illmatic, and the social conditions that influenced its creation. Twenty years after its release, Illmatic has become a hip-hop benchmark that encapsulates the socio-political outlook, enduring spirit, and collective angst of a generation of young black men searching for their voice in America.

Tickets 7,50 euro.

A Read My World, Stichting Tolhuistuin, Metro54, Full Color Entertainment and SLAA production.
