Have you ever tried to translate a poem or a song? Do you enjoy playing with words? How about playing with words in a language you don’t speak?

Read My World invites you to participate in this poetry translation workshop. Together with literary translator Hamide Doğan we will explore the work of Armenian-Turkish poet Karin Karakaşlı, one of the guests at this years festival.

Karin Karakaşlı is a Armenian-Turkish writer living in Istanbul and writing in Turkish: poetry, regularly columns and opinion pieces for independent media, fiction, non-fiction and children’s literature. Her poetry reveals a tremendous love for the geography in which she lives, primarily the city of Istanbul. Karakaşlı has an almost synergistic relationship with this city – with the history embedded in every stone, building and landscape.

This workshop is open to everyone. No previous knowledge of the Turkish language or literature translation is necessary. The only thing required is curiosity and a desire to be creative. This workshop will be conducted in Dutch.
