Mira Feticu

Mira Feticu is a writer of novels and non-fiction. Among others, her works include “Declaration of Love to the Dutch Language,” “All My Fathers,” “Tascha,” “Kortjakje’s Disease,” and “Dear Child of Mine.” As a journalist, Feticu contributes to publications such as Trouw, De Groene Amsterdammer, Wordt Vervolgd, Voertaal, and various Romanian media outlets. Her columns can regularly be found in De Standaard, Trouw, and Den Haag Centraal, where she has been running a dedicated section for years.

Mira Feticu is also a performer. She collaborated with actor Hans Dagelet to adapt her latest novel, “All My Fathers,” which she performs herself on stage. The performance premiered at Het Nationale Theater in The Hague and revolves around the personal story of the main character, Myra, which simultaneously represents the recent history of Europe. “All My Fathers” is an account of a personal and historical trauma of a migrant who believes strongly in the healing power of classical European literature, making the piece also an homage to literature as a vital force.

With a PhD in Literature, Mira Feticu conducts research for journalistic organizations on Eastern European migrants, gives lectures on literature, Roma culture, antisemitism in Eastern Europe, and totalitarianism. She interviews writers, moderates literary events, and sings in the language of the village at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains where she was born.

On February 18, 2023, Mira’s new book, “Memory, History, Civilization: A Tribute to the Library,” was presented at the Royal Library in The Hague. The book received significant media attention, with Mira being a guest on programs such as “De Taalstaat” and “Nooit Meer Slapen” on Radio 1. You can listen to these interviews here and there. The Volkskrant published a brief review, and Michel Krielaars wrote a beautiful column about the book in NRC Handelsblad. On March 28, 2023, it was announced that Mira has been shortlisted for the Jan Hanlo Essay Prize 2023 with “Declaration of Love to the Dutch Language.”
