Maureen Ghazal

Maureen Ghazal (she/her) writes poetry and prose, creates visual artwork, and performs. In 2018, she graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy, and in that same year, she won the El Hizjra Literature Prize for her poetry. Her work has been published in De Gids, De Revisor, and Extra Extra Magazine, among others.

She has performed at venues such as the Crossing Border Festival, Frontaal, and Nacht van de Arabische Literatuur. In 2019, she participated in the Slow Writing Lab, conducting research on the influence of landscape on language and learning Arabic from the polder region. Her work explores themes of birthplace, ancestral customs and rituals, and womanhood. She writes essays for Rekto Verso. Maureen is participating in the development trajectory of Wintertuin.
