Hassnae Bouazza

Hassnae Bouazza (1973, Oujda, Marokko) is journalist, columnist, translator and programme maker. She studied English language and literature and French literature. She has written extensively about the Arab world for outlets like Vrij Nederland, NRC, Volkskrant, Frontaal Naakt and the Arab language site of Radio Netherlands Worldwide.

She was programme maker for the Writers Unlimited Winternachten festival and director and editor-in-chief of the much talked about documentary series ‘Sex and Sin’. She has her own online glossy ‘Aicha Qandisha’ and for her work regarding the Arab world she received the Arouwad Award in Beiroet in 2015. Hassnae was researcher for the series ‘Sign of the Times’ and ‘Sahara’, she writes for the column ‘Homecook’ of NRC and in 2019 she directed the documentary ‘De Klas van ’94 Soenil Bahadoer’. With Michelin-starred chef Soenil Bahadoer she wrote the cookbook ‘Spicy Chef’ in 2020.
