Hackers & Designers

Hackers & Designers is a collective that attempts to break down the barriers between the two fields by enforcing a common vocabulary through education, hacks and collaboration. The collective consists of researchers, software developers, artists and designers. The workshop will be given by H&D members Anja Groten and Karl Moubarak.

Anja Groten is a designer, researcher and community organiser, and since September 2019 the course director of the design department at the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam. Her work revolves around the cross-section of digital and physical media, design education and her involvement in different interdisciplinary collectives. Groten currently holds a PhD position at PhD Arts, at Leiden University / Royal Academy of Art (KABK), The Hague.

Karl Moubarak is a designer and tool builder and active member of the Hackers & Designer’s collective since 2019. Karl studied at the Department of Media and Culture at Design Academy Eindhoven, where he graduated in September 2020. Together with the Queer Constituency Eindhoven he collaborates on organizing queer book clubs and museum drag ups at the Van Abbemuseum.
