Shepherded by sidewalks and stop lights, daily we move through the cityscape and see what developers and politicians have planned for us. But what happens if we view the city as a political space and deviate from the course marked out for us?

If there is any part of Amsterdam that is changing rapidly, it is the North (Noord). Tourists are crossing the IJ river, luxury residential towers are rising up on its banks and the North-South metro line is connecting the area to the city centre. How is this rapid gentrification changing the area? Are there ways to swim against this changing tide and look at Noord from a different point of view?

During this literary tour of Amsterdam Noord we explore unbeaten tracks with writers and open up new perspectives on Amsterdam’s fastest changing area.

The walk will be facilitated by writer and Noord resident, Maartje SmitsMartijn den Ouden and Sevinç Çalhanoğlu.
