Who Sampled That?
In honor of the tradition of sampling in various music styles, most notably Hiphop, this program invites four poets to perform work in which they sample the words or styles of some of the people that inspired them. Making something new from nothing new at all.
Four poets read from work that samples the words of people who have inspired them. From a reinterpretation of dub pioneer Jean Binta Breeze’s famous poem earth cries to a new way of understanding the work of Martinician psychiatrist Frantz Fanon. Part homage, part reinterpretation show the lineage of generations of writers that made our current world possible.
*Readings will be held in Dutch and English. Dutch texts will be provided with English subtitles.
