The Reader is a series of conversations between a writer and a practiced reader with a twist: it is the writer who asks questions about their own work, and the reader who answers. Through surprising and exciting turns in this conversation, it can create its own poetics: a new way of thinking about writing and reading. Boundaries between the writers, the work and the reader shift and find new meanings.

Kit de Waal (as the writer) interviews Karin Amatmoekrim (as the reader) about her most recent work Without Warning and Only Sometimes, a memoir about the “unpredictable childhood” of a Caribbean-Irish girl in Birmingham in the 60s.

This format was created by Bas Belleman & Joost Baars as former editors of Perdu. This programme is a collaboration with Perdu.
