Together with translator Anne Lopes Michielsen, we will delve into passages from O som do rugido da onça / The roar of the jaguar, the recently published novel in Dutch by the Brazilian Micheliny Verunschk.

During the workshop we reflect on language, rhythm and narrative perspectives. We invite you to share Anne’s experiences while working on her Dutch translation. What did she notice? What disappointed her? What new meaning did she gain? In addition, you clearly get to work yourself!

Everyone can participate. The working languages ​​during the workshop are Dutch and English. Although the source language of the text is Portuguese, people who do not speak this language are also very welcome. Certain passages of the novel have been published in English, and because Read My World attaches great importance to multilingualism, comparing languages ​​and translation choices can lead to great conversations and convincing experiences within the group. There will be an opportunity to ask questions, read your translation, and share your interpretation and imagination.
