This year marks 50 years since the first novel by the Surinamese-Dutch author Astrid Roemer Take me back, Suriname (1974, later rewritten as Nergens Ergens) was self-published. She has published hidden novels, poetry collections, plays and autobiographical books. Roemer has been awarded several literary prizes in the Netherlands, including the P.C. in 2016. Hooft Prize and in 2021 with the Prize of Dutch Literature. Her latest novel DealersDaughter interweaves five storylines about different characters who all face big choices in their lives.
