If I die from violence, then call my name. Call it many times.

There are writers who use their art and work to continue calling out the names of murdered and silenced individuals, groups, and their ideas, so that we do not forget the injustice done to them. That which they believed in continues to exist, and what they resisted against is not forgotten, despite the deafening silence of their absence.

In this time of unbearable injustice and violence, in this program, we give voice to three writing artists to fill our collective memory, direct our remembrance, and awaken our thinking. From different corners of the world and with different languages, they will advocate for, speak out against, and call out those who have lost their lives to terrible violence. We remember them through language, sound, and embodiment.

The title of the program is based on the poem “If i must die” by the poet Refaat Alareer, who perished on December 6, 2023, in an airstrike by the Israeli military.

This program is part of a relay programming and follows on from the program “My Language is under arrest,” which took place in September 2023 at the Read My World festival.
