Gentle Strength: The Courage of Vulnerability
What happens when art gives voice to what has remained unspoken for generations?
Art can create space for what has long been hidden. Drawing on the history of the Moluccan community in the Netherlands—marked by forced displacement, loss, loyalty, and generations of silence—and the stories of Moluccans in Maluku, this programme opens up a conversation about taboos, vulnerability, and the meaning of connection.
Upon arrival, each visitor receives a card with a question that invites personal reflection. Two poems by Emawati open the programme, setting the tone for an experience centred on listening, sharing, and recognition.
Through readings, conversations, and personal stories, themes of shame, grief, resilience, and intergenerational memory come together. Anonymous confessions from the audience reveal how speaking the unspeakable can foster recognition, understanding, and a sense of belonging.
The programme concludes with a short Q&A, followed by an opportunity to meet one another and leave behind a personal reflection.
A programme about the power of art to break silence, bring hidden stories to light, and create space for recognition, connection, and healing.
