Meeting of rivers, poetic currents, resounding waterfalls. Streams feed into each other connecting the ancestral with the future, enriching possible presents. Tatiana Nascimento, a Brazilian writer, composer, and singer, and Jovem Palerosi, a musician, producer and multimedia director from São Paulo, join forces in Onira. This lyrical-musical-visual project conjures up multidimensional poetic narratives: synaesthetic ambiences, soundscapes, dreamworlds, and spiritual universes. Looped voices create layers overlapping with beats, synthesizers and samples processed in real time. Original compositions and spoken word poetry weave together as if in a great dream, celebrating the foundations of Black and gender-dissident existence: water, affect, Axé, and dreams.

Onira is an Orisha safeguarded by terreiro spiritual communities. They are linked to the transformative power of the will, and are considered to be one of the manifestations of Iansã. Based on research started in 2016 on Black dissident sexual heritage, from pre-colonial foundations, to historical disrespect, Nascimento has supported dreams as a fundamental epistemic, aesthetic, political and ethical tool of subaltern peoples. Her poems and songs are inspired by the system of call, response, and refrain, reminiscent of work songs and games from traditional Black culture, which blossom in the fertile soil of Palerosi’s experimental grooves and synaesthetic melodies. The Onira experience plunges into the lucid, fugitive atmosphere of dreams, and experiments with different paths to each unique performance. They have already performed at events such as FLIP (Paraty International Literary Festival), FLIPEI (Pirate Literary Festival of Independent Publishers), Hipertexto Festival at Casa das Rosas, Brecha Festival at Associação Cecília, and Black Continuum Festival, among other independent cultural venues.
