Yuchi Cordoba is a drummer and percussionist from Curaçao. He possesses exceptional insight into people and extensive experience working with groups of all ages, social backgrounds, as well as various nationalities and cultures. From a young age, Yuchi displayed strong musical and social talents. In addition, he developed a deep love for the natural and cultural heritage of Curaçao.
During the 1970s and 1980s, he was actively engaged in documenting Curaçao’s cultural heritage. Encouraged by researcher and cultural expert Elis Juliana, he began to focus on Muzik di Zumbi, including studying and performing the tambú grandi and the benta. In 1982, together with Rudsel Isidora and Russell Soliana, he founded the group ISSOCO to help preserve this heritage.
After migrating to the Netherlands, he continued to explore themes of cultural preservation, cultural healing, and African diasporic heritage. His ideal has always been to use this work to promote intercultural dialogue, community integration, and the healing of intercultural tensions.
