Sylvia Pessireron

Sylvia Pessireron was born in Oostburg and lived until the age of six in the Moluccan settlement ‘De Haven’ in Breskens. When the camp was closed, the family moved to Breukelen. After completing secondary school, she pursued studies as an English interpreter-translator in Amsterdam, followed by the School of Journalism in Utrecht.

The history of the Moluccans in the Netherlands has always been central to her writing. This led to the publication of essays and books—alongside newspaper articles—such as *De Verzwegen Soldaat* (The Silenced Soldier), in which she recounted her father’s history, and *Gesloten Koffers* (Closed Suitcases). She recently completed the translation of the book *The President Has Been Executed*, in which former RMS President Christiaan Robbert Steven Soumokil tells his life story.
