BDJAN is regarded as one of the founding figures of Dutch street rap. In the early 2000s, he broke through with THC (Tuindorp Hustler Click), the Amsterdam-based collective whose raw stories from the city resonated with a generation and firmly put street rap on the map.
As a solo artist, RBDJAN continued to develop into a distinctive storyteller and one of the most lyrical voices in Dutch hip-hop. With albums such as De Onderbaas, King, and Kleine Jongens Worden Groot, he built a body of work in which personal experiences, street culture, and social issues come together.
His words now resonate far beyond the hip-hop scene. In 2023, for example, lines from his song My Love were quoted by Mayor Femke Halsema in her New Year’s address about inequality of opportunity.
Alongside his musical work, RBDJAN is involved with young people, language, and culture. He is increasingly broadening his practice, bringing music, personal stories, and literature together.
