Marije de Wit

Marije de Wit (1979, Veghel, lives and works in Rotterdam) is a visual artist. With sculpture and photography she investigates the dynamics of perception and meaning-making, and the works make way for things to exist and be valid before they meet their explanation. Her work was exhibited at WIELS, Brussels, Rib, Rotterdam and Joey Ramone gallery, Rotterdam, amongst other places. In recent years she wrote essays for Glean Magazine and Rekto:verso. De Wit’s creative writing is prompted by her personal history. She grew up with a father who served in the army during the war in Dutch New Guinea – a fact that shrouded her childhood in mystery, as the war was discussed neither in her family nor in society. Her texts touch upon secrecy, provincialism, and wishful thinking.  vertaal
