Julia Jouwe

Julia Jouwe (29) is an activist, journalist, and co-founder of The Young Papua Collective. Her Papuan name, Féje, meaning “the caring one,” reflects her commitment to community organizing, education, and storytelling. Inspired by her grandfather Nicolaas Jouwe, one of the founders of the West Papuan independence movement, she explores how history, identity, and power are interconnected. In her work, she unpacks dominant narratives and seeks out underrepresented perspectives, with a particular focus on Indigenous voices, colonial legacies, and climate justice. Through journalistic research, public programs, events, and workshops, she creates space for new narratives and intergenerational dialogue.
