Isaiah Lopaz

Born in Tovangaar in 1979, Isaiah Lopaz’s artistic practice unfolds across writing, collage, performance, and curation. Lopaz’s current work uses his family’s lineage to map intersections of African, Creole, First Nations, European, British, and American histories.

In 2024, Lopaz founded Black Visual Grammar, a mobile cultural program that archives Black perspectives on various themes and subjects through collage-making workshops and exhibition practices.

His work has been presented at the 10th Berlin Biennial, HAU, daad Galerie, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Beursschouwburg, Viernulvier, and Theater Rotterdam. He was an adjunct professor at Kunsthochschule Weissensee and a guest lecturer at institutions including Akademie der Künste Berlin, Humboldt Universität, RITCS, and St. Lucas Antwerp.

His writing has been published in Etcetera Magazine, Tagesspiegel, and Siegessäule.
