Farah Widmer works with words, oil paint and ceramics. She comes from six countries and speaks five languages. She lives in parallel worlds, which is perhaps the source of the interdisciplinary and multilingual nature of her art.
Widmer’s work centres on the body as a locus for desire, disgust, grief, politics and interpersonal connection. In an ode to her late mother, Widmer’s recent work examines motherhood and birth as symbols of porosity and transcendence.
Craft is central to Widmer’s approach: experiments in brushstroke length, ceramic glazing techniques and literary form are not only expressions of, but rather driving forces behind, Widmer’s creative urge.
