Costan is an artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, and theatrical production. He was born and raised in the regency of Fakfak, known as the “nutmeg city,” in the province of West Papua.
In addition, he is also an art teacher. In his educational practice, he challenges the national education system by emphasizing the importance of Indigenous knowledge as a means of supporting the preservation of West Papuan art and culture. In this context, he introduces figures such as Mambesak, Black Brothers, and other prominent West Papuan artists into his curriculum.
He is a member of the West Papuan artists’ collective Udeido Collective and one of the founders of Labirin Art, an art collective based in Fakfak.
